Feature Guide

Auto-Connect

Rules that connect two slices of your own roster automatically — no manual album, no review step.

In a nutshell

  • An Auto-Connect rule pairs two filtered groups of your profiles; every profile in Group A automatically sees every profile in Group B.
  • Rules are evaluated live on every feed load — edit a rule or a profile and it takes effect immediately, with no resync.

One rule, two groups

You describe two segments of your own roster with the same filters Albums use. Matchdiary keeps the visibility between them live.

Your roster

Group Ae.g. Brides, 26–30, Bangalore, MBA
Filter: who does the seeing
Group Be.g. Grooms, 28–33, Bangalore, postgraduate
Filter: who becomes visible
Group A and Group B are both slices of your own managed profiles — Auto-Connect never reaches outside your roster.

Creating a rule

Everything is a filter you already know from building an album.

  1. 1

    Name the rule

Something you'll recognise later — "Bangalore MBA brides ↔ grooms".

  2. 2

    Define Group A

Set age, location, religion, education, occupation and any other filters for the first segment.

  3. 3

    Define Group B

Set the filters for the segment Group A should automatically see.

  4. 4

    Choose the direction

One-way (A sees B) or mutual (both sides see each other).

  5. 5

Pick a chat mode and switch it on

Request-approval or direct chat. The rule does nothing until it's active.

    Reversible any time

One-way vs mutual

A rule is one-way unless you deliberately make it mutual.

One-way (default)

  • Every Group A profile sees every Group B profile
  • Group B profiles do not see Group A in return
  • Use when only one side should be doing the browsing

Mutual

  • Both groups automatically see each other
  • One explicit toggle — same as turning the rule on
  • Use for a genuine two-way pool, e.g. a community segment

How matched profiles chat

Auto-Connect grants visibility; the chat mode decides whether a message needs your approval.

Request (default)

  • A chat request between two matched profiles still routes through you
  • The safe default — a rule never silently opens direct chat

Direct

  • Matched profiles can start chatting without your approval
  • Use only when you're confident the whole segment is a good fit

Always live, never stale

Unlike a Smart Album, Auto-Connect stores no assignment rows. Every feed load and every chat request re-evaluates the rules, so a rule edit or a profile's attribute change is reflected instantly — there's no backfill job to run.

Where Auto-Connect fits

It's the fourth way a profile can become visible to a family, alongside suggestions, albums and interest history.

A suggestion you sent
An album they can open
Auto-Connect rule
A past interest

Family or bride/groom can view it

A profile appears in a family's Discover feed if any one of these paths currently applies — Auto-Connect is the one that needs no manual step.
